Overview of Shree Siddha Baba Temple

✓Shree Siddha Baba Temple is a Hindu temple. There are two Shree Siddha Baba Temple one is Upper Shree Siddha Baba and another is Lower Siddha Baba. Lower  Shree Siddha Baba Temple is the branch of upper temple which lies in Butwal but Upper Shree Siddha Baba Temple lies in the border between Butwal and Palpa district. It is situated in Dhoban-5,Palpa.

It is approximately 3km away from the Butwal. It is situated at the bank of Tinau river originated from Palpa, Marchawar. It is located beside of national highway “Siddhartha Highway” which goes Pokhara through Palpa. Many people get confused about the both temple but, both are different because it is believed that Upper Temple is the main temple where Lord Shiva is worshiped. Usually People from Butwal and Palpa visit this both temple more, other also come here, but maximum of the people come here from this two places. Mainly, people goes to worship the god Lord Shiva in the Upper Shree Siddha Baba Temple rather than Lower Shree Siddha Baba Temple.

Mostly, People come here to worship god/goddess on Saturday. It is said that if someone true devotee of Lord Shiva visited this temple then his/her wish will come true and there’s a another tradition where if you fly away the pigeon then your desire will also fulfill. Hence, A large number of pigeons are provided in the temple.

 


 

Historical Background

✓According to saga, the temple was the place of penance of King Bhartrihari. The elder brother of King Vikramaditya, who began the Bikram Sambat. At the moment, the temple was listed in Palpa at 1998 in District Administration. So far, no clues have been found as to who built the Shree Siddha Baba temple.

It is said to be that the temple was built before 2006 BS. In past, some jogis were heard doing self- mortification, and worship at the corner of the landslide open hill. Some people rumored that the Temple was in the top of hill and everyone couldn’t climb up so they install the temple near to the road. There is a evidence that the temple of Shree Siddha Baba was installed by the inhabitants where Siddhababa was built in 2018 BS. Shree Siddha Baba is the temple where Lord Shiva s worshipped.

✓Shree Siddha Baba temple is associated with King Bhartrihari of Ujjain who is from India. There is a myth that Bhatrahari came to do penance, when he came to do penance, he acomplished perfection. After accomplishing excellence, his name suited Siddhababa.

 


 

Architectural Features

✓The pagoda style of architecture features conspicuously in the structures of Shree Siddha Baba Temple , with several tiers of roofs arranged in ascending order from top to bottom, supported by intricately sculp wooden struts. This design is considered to have originated somewhere around the starting of the 13th century. This Pagoda Style is the quite famous design used in many temples of Nepal.

The whole Shree Siddha Baba temple complex is full of sculptures and with beautifully carved out of wood. Religious and cultural artworks related to ancient gods are also there in the temple.

 


 

Religious and Cultural Significance

It is believed that it was built and registered at 1998,some jogis were doing penance and worship at the corner of the landslide prone hill so some one installed there temple. Some people rumored that the Temple was in the top of hill and everyone couldn’t climb up so they install the temple near to the road. But who buit this temple is still mysterious.

✓People used to told ,in past this temple was just a shed with the stone believing god, But as for now it is fully developed, managed and conserved properly. Mainly, Lord Shiva is worship in this temple but , Apart from idols of Lord Shiva, this temple also houses other deities like Ganesha, Hanuman, Nag, Laxmi, Mansa Devi and Vishwakarma. Likewise, there are more than 10 other temples like Ganesh Temple etc. People mainly come here on the festival like Shivaratri, nag puja, Shree Panchami and many more special dates. It provides a place for religious practices, ceremonies, and worship that encourage spiritual growth and community unity.

Visitor Experience & Information

As we know that, Shree Siddha Baba Temple is 3km away from Butwal. So, it conduct its own religious bus from 6 am to 12 at noon which gives devotees a free ride without any cost. Inside the bus there is a donation box for the management of temple in which you can give the donation if you want.

I personally suggest you to go on Saturday, while it’ll be rush on holiday but it’ll be worth it going on Saturday. I suggest you that , don’t wear fancy clothes or any too short clothes. Wear long and simple clothes like kurta, gown, saree etc for woman and for man wear simple shirt and pants. Don’t forget to watch the view from the top of the temple which looks stunning.

The Tinau river that flows continuously and the panoramic view of mountains with waterfalls will gives you the memorable view. You should behave properly in the religious site, you should not create dramas, conflict and chaos.

 


 

Current Status and Preservation

✓Regular upkeep to secure the temple’s structures, artworks, are well-preserved. And have to keep safe including cleaning, repairing, and protecting from weathering or any damage.

In this rainy season, there is a high risk of soil erosion and landslide, so management team are doing best to keep the Temple safe. Local community members often play a crucial role by joining in volunteer work, fundraising events, and awareness campaigns to support the temple. Financial support like donations and sponsors from local patrons, businesses, and religious organizations are helping in fund conservation projects and maintenance.

✓Global organizations and international donors are also contributing funds for renovation and conservation efforts, especially for historically significant temples which is so good for the temple.
